Odyssey Essay

Odysseus is a hero because of his brawniness during this journey. Another example is his cleverness in battle. Also is his courageousness toward immortal beings.
Odysseus never gives up during challenging events. Throughout the story he stays true to his family. Gods and goddesses try to break him but, he stays mentally strong all the way to the end. Odysseus has many troubles during this time, like when he has to endure being a beggar. The temptation of talking to his wife is torture. Along with being mentally strong, he shows his brute strength at the games in Phaiacia. Laodamas, prince of the Phaiacians, challenged Odysseus in the games, so "he sprang up and grabbed a huge big weight and with one whirl he threw it farther than any other man" (91).
Son of Laertes is never scared of any man or divine being. He battles the suitors in the great hall of Ithaca, and all in all he was out numbered in men during this battle. Equally as important is his fearlessness against Calypso, an evil and sexually-driven goddess. Poseidon, god of the sea, is exasperated with Odysseus because he stabbed his son's eye out, so the Earthshaker curses him when he is on open water. The wandering soul uses his prowess skills against Poseidon on the sea.
Finally, Odysseus' intelligence during critical situations is remarkable. Along with being smart, he possesses great stratagem in battle. In fact, he shows these qualities during the Trojan war with the Trojan horse, which eventually ended the war. In addition, he out smarts Polyphemos, a cyclops, with the trick "Noman is my name" (107). Odysseus is very laconic here, which gets him off of the island of the cyclops. Besides showing keenness in battle, he shows cleverness in outsmarting the Sirens, the seductive and fatal singers. Odysseus tells his men to "bind [him] with strong ropes and fasten [him] upright to the mast" (141).
His mightiness, boldness, and keenness are three reasons why he is hero in The Odyssey.

The best movie ever is Hoosiers. It is the best ever because it is inspiring, has realistic characters, and has relatable content. It is a very brilliant basketball movie, which is an another main reason it is the best movie ever.
It is inspirational because a small town team makes it all the way to the championship game. The team of the small town Hickory, Indiana. The Hoosiers are made up of seven players, who does not have a very successful season. The team becomes an organized team which plays well in tournament. They make it to the state championship, which is composed of all the schools in the state. Although Hickory is one of the smallest teams in the state, they play the biggest school in the state and beat them.
Another reason, why Hoosiers is a great movie is because of the small-town characters. The players are just out there to have fun and play basketball. The team gets the town's best player halfway through the season; his name is Jimmy. The coach who really likes the game and the players, shows his emotion towards the game in the way he coaches. The team is not the most gifted team, but through work hard and they become a team that wins games.
The most important reason for this movie's greatness is that it has pertainable content. The town cares more about basketball than anything. The team is a small town team, which are often underdogs. Coaches are on the hotseat if they do not win games; they get fired. Even the town priest takes part. He owns a bus and takes the team to the games in his bus.
These are just a few of the reasons why Hoosiers is the best movie ever. Hoosiers is very motivational to small town basketball teams. It also has very prudent characters which relate to other small town teams. For many members of small towns, this is a very referable movie to what goes on in most small towns. So if one is a basketball player in a small town, one should watch this movie to get inspired for their future season.

Personal Poem
Sophomore English
7 February 2008
Basketball games are exhilarating,
at the beginning of the game, when the
crowd is anxious for the jump.
Michael’s gym bag is like a
junior high hallway.
The most exhilarating moment is when a backboard shatters
like a man smacking glass with a sledgehammer.
The crowd goes crazy when you hit a three
like a pack of chimpanzees.
Driving home from the game on icy roads
can be as scary as a hippo on ice skates.
Victory tastes like
banana cream pie.
Carter’s cleavage sweat dripping on the court is
like a wet t-shirt contest at Panama Bay.

This essay is going to tell you about my personal object I have chosen. This object has meaning because of where it has been with me. This object is a Denver Broncos hat.
It has been to very and hardworking places. It has been to brandings around Hot Springs. Most of its work has been at Baker's Branding.
It shows that I have worked very hard when it is needed, that is why it is so dirty. One of the more important aspects it shows about me is that I like the Denver Broncos. Also shows that I like to wear hats.
It is important to me because it is a logo of my favorite team. It is also important because it has been with me in certain memories. Its most importance is that it is a sweet hat.
The personal object I have told you about is very important to me in certain ways. I am very obliged to tell you about my personal object.

The Lottery
The “Lottery” is a horrible story because, sacrifice, determination of death, and unethical of the way they do things in this of the story. It is horrible that they stone people to death. Why would you want to see that much blood and gore? It also is the worst story ever because of the distribution of death through the random picking of people through a black box. Why would you kill somebody that helps you with the community? Another problem with this story is that it is so unethical because, of the kids in the lottery. It is pretty dumb that you have kids dieing or killing their family. In conclusion, the lottery is dumb because of death, drawing, and veniality of this story is why it should be thrown away.
